The Arch
2018-2020
Umhlanga Arch is designed as a sculptural, interconnected precinct that transforms architecture into a lifestyle. It celebrates openness, community, and experiential luxury, bringing together commerce, cuisine, hospitality, and residential life into a unified contemporary landmark.
At its core, the architecture seeks to blur boundaries between interior and exterior, using transparency and open-air transitions to harness the region’s subtropical climate. Elevated terraces, rooftop lounges, and landscaped promenades weave nature into the built environment, creating pockets of greenery and breathing space throughout the precinct.
The precinct integrates hotel, residential, corporate, retail, and dining experiences into one cohesive architectural narrative. Each function is given its own identity while maintaining fluid spatial relationships, encouraging organic movement and social interaction.
The upper levels feature sky lounges, rooftop pools, and panoramic decks, emphasizing verticality as an experiential asset. Guests and residents are invited to engage with the horizon line—turning ocean views, city lights, and sunsets into part of the architectural experience. The rooftop pool deck, in particular, showcases relaxed luxury through natural textures, soft coastal colours, and open-air framing.
